No Place Like Home: With Nilofar Shidmehr, Pierre Jarawan and David Bezmozgis
Human history is the story of migration, of adaptation, of lives and cultures intersecting, and yet some would use the word “immigrant” as an epithet, would suggest a hard line between “us” and “them,” would deny that shared humanity runs deeper than the specifics of our births. Join us for an evening of storytelling with a special focus on lives straddling cultures, of journeys both physical and spiritual.

BETWEEN BORDERS: MIGRATION AND IDENTITY
Love, loss, and longing are central to Sharon Bala’s bestselling debut novel The Boat People and Nilofar Shidmehr’s debut collection of short stories Divided Loyalties. Both include narratives of migration, refugees, war, resilience, and the promise of a new life. Inspired by real events, their books explore perilous situations and the lives of those who fight to survive despite the chaos, risks, what they leave behind, and expectations forced upon them.
